What are Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are a set of factors that Google uses to measure page experience. There are three Core Web Vitals metrics you can check:
LCP
Largest Contentful Paint
Measures the speed at which a page's main content is loaded. This should occur within 2.5 seconds of landing on a page.
INP
Interaction to Next Paint
Measures how quickly a website responds to user interactions like clicks or key presses.
CLS
Cumulative Layout Shift
Measures how often users experience unexpected layout shifts. Pages should maintain a CLS of less than 0.1.
Why is it important to check Core Web Vitals?
Since 2021, Core Web Vitals have been used by Google as part of its search algorithms. That means that if you're not compliant with all three metrics, you could see lower search rankings and therefore reduced traffic to your site.
What's more, Core Web Vitals are a measure of page experience, so if yours aren't up to scratch, there's a good chance your visitors aren't having the best experience on your site. That could make them spend less time on your site, and less likely to return, which is likely to have a negative impact on advertising revenues.
Core Web Vitals can vary over time, especially if you're making changes to your site, so it's a good idea to check them regularly.
